Rabbi Shais Taub

Living Lchaim.

Money:

Money is for accomplishing things.

Money isn't evil, it's energy (It builds, it moves things, it destroys, makes things happen). The key is to learning to channel it with respect.

Money is like fire, respect it, but don't worship it. And when you use it wisely, it'll warm the world.

The righteous value their money, because they earn it honestly. You're going to be frugal, you're not going to be wasteful.

Work:

When you are working, don't think that your work generates income, it doesn't. Your work is merely the cup you are holding out within which to receive the income.

Overworking does not create more blessing, working is expected of you, and having faith in Hashem is what pays the bills.

Mentality:

Wealthy people feeling lonely, a very usual complaint. Need for validation. You have to have a very clear sense of who you are.

In order to be philanthropic you have to open your brain, you have to overcome the scarcity mindset. Force to think broadly, so you open yourself to bigger blessings. When you are giving, you are changing your mentality.

Wealth:

Real wealth isn't what you have, it's what you do with what you have.

Trusting Hashem brings more livelihood, than worry ever will.

Living Lchaim. Episode 20.

Money:

  • Money will give comfort but not happiness. Don't get confused. Money is the way God can get us to interact with each other, to meet people, to get us to come out of our caves and feel mutually dependent of each other
  • Money can destroy you if you don't know how to handle it. People who inherit a lot of money need a little bit of counseling

We have to function as needed creatures, not as needy creatures.

Have confidence. We can all use a little bit of confidence. Don't say: 'God, teach me, give me, help me, show me... Ask yourself, what can I do for god's world?'

Don't work harder, work smarter. If you have three hours of focused work, you would make as much money as you are making now. Work also for your community.

Daniel Lapin. Episode 29

Take care of 5 F's.

  • Family
  • Faith
  • Friendship
  • Finance
  • Fitness

Think seriously about the number and quality of your friends and connections and associates. Build connections and associations that are authentic.

Stop watching videos, stop watching movies, because it energizes passivity, it makes passive recipients, everything is fed to you. Read a good book, in english, aloud, for half an hour, four times a week. Force you to read aloud for four half-hour sessions every week.

Be strong and of good courage. Practice and practice until it becomes natural.

¿Do you really need an expensive event for a happy celebration?, ¿do yo really have to pay private school tuition? and the answer is no.

It is surprisingly difficult to give large sums of money away to people who is not prepared to manage it without causing harm. Help them through their own struggle and labor.

Think in the long term. We reach immortality through our children. The importance of inheritance.

Overcoming the embarrassment of making money is one the biggest obstacles facing by some people.

Naftali Horowitz. Episode 02

We have to live as if credit doesn't exist. Credit cards is the worst debt vehicle. Credit card should be a payment convenience mechanism. Building credit score is a way that young people fall into the credit card trap.

Biggest money wasters: eating out, buying ready-made food, clothing, uber instead of walking or a bus, buy on amazon, the latest gadget from apple.

You need to discipline your child from when they are young on the value of money and discipline spending. If anyone has a child who is spendthrift and they send them into marriage without the proper education 10 years later guess who is going to end picking up the pieces. Generally the parents.

If you succumb to peer pressure how can you expect your children not to succumb to peer pressure.

Buy an index fund, leave it alone and forget it and it'll grow and you'll beat 90% of the geniuses out there. If you want to make more than that, read a book, think about it.

Focus, don´t look for side jobs.

Meaningfulness comes from relationships. What are your real relationships?

Speculating does not make you a successful person, you'll feel rich, not successful. Success comes when you build yourself, when 10 years later you are a different human being.

If you are not making mistakes you can't possibly be growing. Every successful person makes loads of mistakes. Seven times the righteous fall and stand.

God created a world where money is a necessity. We must work, and money is an exchange mechanism for that work.

Start to be aware, because awareness is the beginning of everything, of where and how you are spending your money and why. Replace the joy of the coffee or the uber with the joy of knowing that'll you have money to retire.
